Project

Beauty is in the eye -
a lighter, brighter concourse

Peterborough Railway Station Development

Funded by Network Rail and East Coast Rail through the government NSIP, we were approached to revitalise Peterborough station and transform it into a vibrant gateway to the city for passengers using the East Coast mainline. This extensive works involved redeveloping the station entrance and concourse area, platform waiting facilities, staff accommodation and passenger facilities.

What was asked

To accomplish this modern aesthetic, the roof of the station roof was removed in order for a new glazed ‘eye’ to be installed.

Our in house expertise oversaw the structural redevelopment, managing the complete process including creating a new short stay car park, and optimising the flow of external traffic to reduce congestion.

How We Did It

This project included key architectural improvements such as a new frontage, and a brighter interior allowing more light onto the concourse.

These key design features all contribute towards an improved travelling and working environment. To ensure the seamless integration of retailers in this new modern station, Input Group also fitted out WH Smith, Starbucks and Pumpkin Café.

  • Input Group redesigned structural elements of the station to install the “eye”
  • Work included the installation of a cycle park, CCTV cameras and ticket gate lines
  • The project was completed in three phases altogether lasting three months
